Seniors Section Competition News - Bill Elder Classic

Bill Elder Classic – 18th August

Entries are now invited for the first Seniors Section competition of 2020, the appropriately named Bill Elder Classic. This will tee off between 8am and 10am on Tuesday 18th August.

This is a full handicap stableford competition, off the yellow tees, and is restricted to members of the club’s Seniors Section.  Entry is free.

How do I enter?

The locker room is now open, and the entry sheet can be found on the Seniors Section noticeboard. This sheet allows entrants to give their preferred timeslot: 8:00-8:30; 8:30-9:00; 9:00-9:30;  9:30-10:00.   Entries will close at noon on Tuesday 11th August.

What are the arrangements?

Once the entries have closed a draw will be made and tee times emailed to competitors. On the day of the competition you need to sign in on Today’s Golf on HowDidiDo. Normal competition rules apply, and each hole must be putted out (no gimmees!!). After your round, scores need to be entered on Score Entry on HowDidiDo.

The Seniors Section Committee is looking to arrange a lite-bite reception after the completion of the rounds, but this is dependent on the Clubhouse catering being available. Further information will be provided nearer the time.

What if I cannot access HowDidiDo?

In the event of problems signing in to the competition, or in entering scores afterwards, there will be back-up arrangements made. These will be confirmed prior to the competition.

If you have any questions on the above competition, please contact one of the following members of the Committee:

Men's 60 and over Thursday Sweep

The Thursday Men's 60 and over sweep got off to a great start yesterday, with 43 entrants signing up for this inaugural event.

John Mitchel was the 1st to sign in at 6.03am. Weather conditions were perfect, as well as the scoring!!

Our congratulations go to a young 82 year old Brian Parker with 44 points. His putter was certainly hot, hot, hot!! Runner up being Bruce McNiven 39 points.

It was also great to see Norman Close near the top of the leader board. Well done Norman!!

Perhaps we'll look forward to seeing more entrants next Thursday?

The section would like to thanks Phil Tennant, and his team for their hard work in setting up this competition for us all to enjoy. !!

(Result for 25/6/2020 CSS: 70 Par: 72)

1st Brian Parker 44pts

2nd Garry Williamson 39pts

Seniors Section Update (18th June 2020)

Further to our last message on the 6th March 2020 regarding the Seniors Section, just an update to where we are.

As we are now getting back into golf, things are certainly different prior to the 21st March 2020.

We now have 66 paid up members into the section, with further 9 pending, which is absolutely fantastic.

Golfing events, namely Joe Farley Classic, and the away day to Longhirst Golf Club have been postponed. The Joe Farley Classic is now going to be played on Tuesday 22nd September. We are trying to re-arrange the away day.

From Thursday 25th June we are introducing a weekly stableford competition off the yellows. £1 entry. This is open to all male members 60 and over. We thought many Seniors would like the opportunity to play in a weekly seniors sweep, and would also encourage members to maintain an active handicap who normally don't or can't play in club competitions.

If you have any questions on the above, please contact one of the following members of the Committee:
