Seniors Christmas Competition Results

On a season cold and frosty morning, 47 Seniors braved the impending Storm Barra  to compete in the 2020/2021 Xmas Competition yesterday. Well done to everyone for coming out, and it was great that so many dressed in festive hats, jumpers etc. to add Christmas cheer to the day. Chairman Tony Dancer set everyone off with a free commemorative golf ball and relieved players of a bottle prize donation and at least £1 for the bonus ball.

The winner of the competition was Colin Kemp with an impressive 43 points, and the best 8 scorers received a voucher for the pro-shop:

3rd Steve Paxton (39)

4th Peter Smith (38)

5th Jim Kirby (38)

6th Les Miller 38)

7th Gordon Lamb (38)

8th Stuart Reid (37)

Steve Paxton also won the £60 bonus ball prize, thanks to a recount and Simon Anthony's "random number generator".

The prize for the most festive atire went to "Big Santa" Paul White, who won a tin of Quality Street. 

Following the presentation of prizes by Chairman Tony, members collected their bottle prizes and many stayed for the AGM (notes to follow later).

Seniors Championship Results

The Seniors Championship competition (strokeplay format) was played on Tuesday 14th September, on an overcast day with a little drizzle here and there.  The course was in good condition with quick, true greens. 47 members teed off – a great turnout! A good round of golf was finished nicely with a steaming plate of bangers, mash and onion gravy!

 

Results:

Winner Best Gross – Peter Hindmarsh 72 (wins the trophy and a bottle of Glenlivet)

Runner-up – Steve Slater 77

Third - David Hodgson 82

 

Best Nett – Danny Close 65 (bottle of Glenlivet)

Runner-up - John Pickering 66

Third – Jim Kirby 67

Congratulations to the winner Peter, who had two birdies and 14 pars off a handicap of 3, and to all members who supported the competition.

 

Nearest The Pin (bottle of  French wine)

6th hole John Pickering – 10 feet and 3 inches. (please pick up your prize from pro-shop)

14th hole Danny Close – 9 feet and 2 inches.  

Well done to John and Danny, who also finished with the top two net scores.

 

Bonus Ball

Jim Watson won the £60 prize with number 53.

Seniors Team Finish Runners-Up

The Northumberland Seniors Golf League 2021 ended with the City runners up to League Champions Bedlington. 12 matches played - winning 8, drawing 2 and 2 narrow defeats.

We would like to thank our sponsors Dave Dryden (AXA Roofing) and Rob Muir (Barlow Radiators) for their support.

We are now looking for new Sponsors for the next two years. If you are able to help kindly contact the Seniors officials.

Finally, well done to the team members for collating the points. Let’s see if we can go one better next season!!

Seniors Team Draw Final Game

The result from today’s Seniors Team match: Tynemouth 6 City 6

This was our second draw in as many matches, and it was sufficient to ensure that we finished joint second in the League.

Once again the team enjoyed a good course, good food and good company!

 

The final league positions are as follows:

 

Bedlingtonshire   109 pts

City of Newcastle  92 pts

Stocksfield            92 pts

Whitley Bay          88 pts

 

Well done to everyone who has volunteered to play for the team this season, and congratulations to Alan Johnson our Captain!

Seniors Team Draw With Westerhope

The result from today’s Seniors Team match: City 6 Westerhope 6

This was our second game in 36 hours, the points being shared – our first drawn game of the season.

Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the bangers and mash, followed by sticky toffee pudding.

 

This results means that the team moves into 2nd place in the league:

 

  1. Bedlingtonshire  89 pts (played 10)
  2. City of Newcastle 86 pts (played 11)
  3. Stocksfield           80 pts (played 11)
  4. Whitley Bay         78 pts (played 11)

 

Our last game of the season is away to Tynemouth on Thursday 2nd September.
