In 1974 a group of Saturday lunchtime golfers formalised their weekly sweep with a trophy which one of their regular players, Ben Clark, an ex-footballer who had played for Derby County, donated. The group have continued playing each Saturday lunchtime ever since, and this weekend celebrated their 50th anniversary with a special event, with some of the founding members of the society playing.  The event was won by Mike Thompson with 39 points.  After the round Mark Wilkinson led the presentation,  with prizes presented by men's captain, Chris Miller, whose father was one of the founding members, and a toast was proposed to Ben Clark by another of the founding members, Mike Emens.

Congratulations to Phil Ridden and Andrew Minnikin who won their Northumberland Semi Final match against Slaley Hall 2&1 at Alnmouth Village this morning in a hard fought match.  They now play local rivals, Northumberland GC in the Northumberland final next Saturday 27th April at 9:30 at Alnmouth Village, with the winners playing against the Durham winners in the afternoon to compete for the Inter County Foursomes title. Supporters welcome.

Ground Under Repair areas have been marked up for the water affected areas on the 7^th and 16^th and these Local Rules: GUR rules on 7th and 16th  apply until further notice.

Competitions Team

With a much drier weather forecast than we have had for several months the summer tees will return from Tuesday.  The first competition of the season from the summer tees will be the Pro’s Sweep on Wednesday, 24th April which will be played from White tees for men and Red tees for women.

Winter Non Qualifying Rules will remain in place for now, and we will make a further announcement relaxing those rules as the ground conditions dry out further.

Entry to our knockout competitions is available from using the Club V1 Members app, and selecting the “knockouts” option.

The closing date for all events is Saturday, 20^th April at midnight.

The knockout events are:

• Ladies Calcutta Cup – Singles
• Mens Calcutta Cup – Singles
• Ladies Elliott Greensomes – Greensomes
• Mens Collings Trophies – Greensomes
• Mixed knockout – Greensomes
• Mens John Duncan Trophy – Singles (for players aged 55 and over)
• Mens Scratch Knockout – Singles (with no handicap allowance)

The draws will be available on the Club V1 members Hub using the “Knockouts” option from 22nd April, which also includes guidance on playing in each competition.

In addition, the qualifying rounds for the George Sinclair trophy (for men with a Course Handicap of 14 and under) and the MacSmith Trophy (for men with a Course Handicap of 15 and above) will take place on Saturday 27^th April, where the top 16 of each qualify for the knockout stages.

Members can also enter by asking in the Pro Shop, the Office or by emailing the competitions team.
