Men's Captain's Day

Captain's Corner : Men's Captain's Day

It's been a long time coming but I eventually managed to host 'Men's Captain's Day' in beautiful weather on Saturday.

We had 206 competitors raising £1030 for the charity Gympossible.

Huge thanks to the helpers on the day (and to the many others who'd volenteered their services)

Vice Captain Neil Walker and Tom Lillico for setting up the half way house.

Starters,: Chris Miller, Dave Fletcher, Bill Gibson, Louise Lewis, Gordon Lamb, Simon Coultas, Jim Screen Gary Duncan and Phil Tennant.

Helpers at the tent: again Neil, Simon Coultas and Paddy Small.

Judith: for looking after my family at lunchtime in the Cluhouse, where we enjoyed a lovely meal.

Craig and the lads for presenting the course in fantastic condition: player after player wishing to pass on their compliments to the team.

It's difficult to know how much food and drink to provide for players at the refreshment stop:

But for future Captains: golfers drink a lot of beer when it's hot (fortunately ASDA is close by) and 5 kg of peanuts is a bit on the safe side (I've got 4 kg left).

In the competition itself, I couldn't have wished for a better winner: Paddy Small lifted the trophy with an impressive 40 points on what proved to be a difficult scoring day.

Paddy was unlucky in the final of  the Calcutta last year, where in a match I refereed, he was defeated by the City's Stewart Cink Rob Muir (great lad really) so great to see him on the honours board this year!

Another highlight: Neil Elborn's hole in one at the 2nd. (his second of the season on the same hole!)

Also good to see the nearest the pin prizes being won by players with handicaps ranging from 3 to 24.

I'll close my message by saying how touched and humbled I feel, by the kind words and best wishes I have received, not just yesterday, but throughout my captaincy.

May I thank all who entered and made it a great day for me: I hope you enjoyed it.

Thanks again for your support

Geoff Davison
