North Durham League Division 3

A good night against Beamish at home last night with a 10 -4 win which lifts us to one of the promotion spots.

Kev Hutchinson holed a birdie put from off the green on the last to win his match, Dave Ridley, Jim Smith and Jack Lillie also picked up wins.

Jim back in team colours for the first time in 30 years!

Also nice to see Jack get off the mark.

Ken Cairns lost his match, Anthony Ellison and Keith Alexander halved their matches.

Next it's away to Ramside Hall Tuesday 15th June.

Day 2 of the 72 hole Championship at Newbiggin.

Some good golf played today with the impressive James Wilson (Tyneside) winning with a total of 11 under par.

Phil Ridden finished 2nd on 7 under with Alex Dixon was 3rd on 5 under.

Andrew Minnikin also ended up with a top 10 finish with a 2 over total for the 4 rounds.

Zak Laws and Karl Mossom also played today having made the halfway cut, but struggled with the effects of yesterday's sun.

Well done lads, good to have our players contending in these events.

Newcastle and District League Tyneside at home

We welcomed Tyneside last night in a top of the table clash.

With both teams fieding very strong teams it was always going to be a closely contested match.

Alex Dixon down to Kris Rae for most of his match, finished strongly with a Drive and wedge to 17 for a win to get back to all square, he then went on to win the last with a birdie to take the points.

Andrew Minnikin (pictured on the 8th tee) played James Wilson (who was runner up at Southerness in the Scottish Amateur last week). James eagled 17 to get back to all square, and both players birdied the last, to share the points, in a match neither player deserved to lose.

Out of sorts Phil Ridden battled back from 3 down but lost on 17 to Sam Robinson.

Ian Davidson continued his impressive unbeaton streak with a 2 up win on the last against Roger Martin.

Karl Mossom down from the start came through with a 1 up win after Steve Weightman unluckily put his tee shot out of bounds.

Paul Souter let an early lead slip to go 2 down after 14 to John Korenteng, but fought back to win on the last, holing an uncomfortable par put of 3 feet. (Paul's now won all 5 matches he's played in!)

Final result 9 - 3  A great result which puts us 4 points clear in the league.

Many thanks to the great support last night, biggest gate of the season!

Thanks to Craig Parkinson and his green keeping team for presenting the course in really good condition.
