Congratulations to the winners of winter competition prizes especially Helen Kipling who won the Winter Eclectic. Thank you to the comps team for running all the winter events, we were so lucky not to have to cancel any of them.

The summer season is now upon us, so I wish you all the best of luck in all the competitions you enter be they home or away.

The first order of the new kit has arrived and been embroidered A second order is being created so if you would still like to order something, please let me know.

The Captain’s Dinner Dance was a super evening. The kitchen delivered an excellent meal, and the band kept the dancefloor full all night. Thanks to everyone who came along and partied with Neil and me.

County Shield matches start this month, so we wish everyone representing the City the very best of luck and thank you for playing for us.

Current year 2 Get Into Golfers will ‘graduate’ at the end of April. We are organising a graduation scramble and a social on Sunday 24th April. Well done to everyone, we hope you have enjoyed your experience and look forward to watching you grow as golfers in our section.

City ladies continue to support local charities. We have recently donated toiletries, work appropriate clothing and are currently collecting food items for Easter distribution.

April will feature the launch of the Captain’s Reverse Raffle in aid of The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. There are some great prizes to be won.

Our first County Shield matches start in April. Congratulations to those selected to play and lots of luck to all our teams. I hope we all have a very successful season.

This is my first update of 2022, I can't quite believe where time is going!
The Ladies section has enjoyed some wonderful winter golf, thanks to the mild January and early February we have had. Our winter competitions are monthly but many ladies are also playing in the Winter Eclectic and trying to improve on previous scores. We have two winter competitions left before we embark on the 2022 summer season on 25th March.
We have been spending time looking after our mental health recently with a talk by a hypnotherapist, Lou Wilson, who gave us an insight into the complex working of our brains, our stress buckets and how to empty it!! Next up we have Professor Kitrina Douglas, a Solheim Cup player and Golf coach turned psychologist. The 3-hour workshop will challenge our motivation and concentration and how we deal with challenging situations out on the course.
We have been lucky enough to gain a significant sum of sponsorship monies towards new Ladies Kit. This will be available to all ladies to purchase. Orders will be taken in February so delivery will be in time for the new season.
The Captain's Dinner Dance is on 26th March. Neil and I are firming up plans and tickets are on sale now. We would love you to join us for the last party before the season starts.

Lady Captain’s news

We celebrated our 2021 golfing year at Presentation Evening at the end of November. The theme was ‘Strictly sparkling’ and the evening was dazzling! Our meal was excellent and we enjoyed personal wine waiting service from Michael.

Next up was our Christmas competition and Party. Sharon devised a Santa Scramble over 14 holes where we played our Santa Joker but the Grinch also made an appearance and stole a  drive! Members past and present enjoyed an afternoon of quizzes, mince pies and a performance by a local choir. The highlight of the afternoon was watching the video of the ‘12 Days of Golfmas’ that was created by Matthew in the office. Ladies had filmed themselves singing various lines from The 12 Days of Golfmas on holes 1-12 and Matthew spliced them all together to create a hilarious, out of tune, rendition! You can see it here on https://www.cityofnewcastlegolfclub.com/members-noticeboard/ Photographs are also available in the Gallery page.

So, as we look forward to a Covid free festive period, may I wish you all a wonderful, peaceful Christmas and all the very best for 2022.

Captain's Update

The first few weeks of my Captaincy have flown over with two big events taking place.
My drive on on Saturday 23rd October was followed by our annual Captain vs Vice Captains competition. Barbara  Franklin's (Lady VC) team were victorious on the day.
The Captain's Cheese and Wine took place on Saturday 13th November. After buffet style canapes and cheese board, we were superbly entertained by Andy Usher, saxophonist / guitarist.
Next up is Pilates on 22nd November at 6pm in the Clubhouse, all proceeds  going to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Tickets are available from the bar.
Tickets are also available for 'Moonlit Golf' (after sunset really!) on Sunday 28th November. 9 holes of golf, with luminous accessories, followed by a hot beef sandwich in the clubhouse. Everyone welcome. Tickets available behind the bar.
Thanks
Louise
