Winter Rules

General Club Noticeboard : Winter Rules

Starting 15th November 2017

Play Prohibited From Fairways

A ball finishing on the fairway must be either

A. Played from a mat: Mat to be placed within 1 ft of the ball. The ball can then be picked, cleaned and placed on the mat, not nearer the hole. Mats if desired can be purchased from the Pro Shop.

B. Dropped and/or placed EITHER side of the fairway (in the rough) not nearer the hole. There is no limit to how far left or right (in the rough) a player chooses to drop/place. (The position where the ball originally lay does not need to be marked.) The ball may be placed on a mat if you move to the rough. Your ball MUST be played from the hole on which it lands.

C. Played with a putter

For General play and in Winter competitions, players may play from all areas using a mat, with the exception of bunkers and hazards.

Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes.

Note: Anyone playing from the fairway without a mat or using a putter may be subject to disciplinary action.

Preferred Lies

In addition a player may prefer his lie ‘Through the Green’

A ball lying through the green may be lifted, without penalty, and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, he must place it on a spot within six inches of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green.

A player may place his ball only once, and it is in play when it has been placed (Rule 20-4). If the ball fails to come to rest on the spot on which it is placed, Rule 20-3d applies. If the ball when placed comes to rest on the spot on which it is placed and it subsequently moves, there is no penalty and the ball must be played as it lies, unless the provisions of any other Rule apply.

Definition: "Through the green" is the whole area of the course except:

a. The teeing ground and putting green of the hole being played

b. All hazards on the course.

Starting 15th November 2017

Play From Bunkers

If a ball comes to rest in a bunker, the following procedure will apply without penalty

* A ball may be lifted and cleaned

* Sand may then be raked from where the ball was lifted from

* Ball is then placed in the bunker, as close as possible to where it originally lay, not nearer the hole

* After playing your shot, the bunker will be raked.

* A mat can be used in all areas of the course except in a hazard or bunker. If your ball lands in the rough it can be moved onto a mat. ? You do not have to use the mat for every shot. ? The rough is not the first cut strip on either side of the fairway. The rough is defined as the longer grass after this cut. ? Your ball MUST be played from the hole on which it lands. For example if you hit it onto the 18th hole off the 1st you MUST play from the 18th. ? The roped off areas, with the exception of the tees, are NOT ground under repair, they are for traffic management only, if you are obscured by the ropes please take them out of the ground, play your shot and replace the rope. ? Winter tees must be used. Play is prohibited from all other tees and should be regarded as "ground under repair play prohibited" ? Stand-alone temporary greens have been cut, these are classed as "ground under repair play prohibited" when not in use.

* When play is to temporary greens, the permanent greens are classed as "ground under repair play prohibited"

Rules of Golf STILL apply
