Question & Answers

General Club Noticeboard : Question & Answers

Q - how come a buggy going out doing snacks and yet I can't use one to play golf?

A - it was agreed that the snack buggy would follow the greenkeepers path and only go to the 8th tee. The only place on course it hits is the far left edge of 18th and the 8th fairway.

Q - Locker room toilets.... are they open or closed

A - CLOSED members should not be using them. Lockerrooms are for club storage only until further notice. In order to have toilets and wash facilities open we would need to clean and sanitise touch points every 30 mins throughout the day.  Members should not enter locker rooms without a mask.

Q - is the rule of arriving on tee no more than 10 mins before time still in place, I say this because the congregating of people around the lockerrooms at lunch time Saturday was shocking and for me not safe?

A - Yes - golfers should arrive via pro shop entrance to the tee no more than 10 mins before their allocated time.

Q - has the club sold land to the left of 1st tee behind practice net?

A - NO Brian at Daft as a Brush used the area for celebration of his historic walk, they have donated and are planting blue bells in the little wood area which will look very pleasing on the eye.

Q - What is the committee thoughts as to future clubhouse strategy?

A - Decision made following report from club management and treasurer that we work towards a plan when no 'private functions' will be required. This involves the continued success of the Bistro resturant which is a 'so far so good' feature. Midweek funerals will continue but in the long term to eliminate the need for functions would be most welcome. This includes provision to ensure golf members have seating following their golf and on other occastions.

Q - Will the winter course be the same as last year?

A - No there will be some changes that will make the course a real test and enjoyable challenge during the winter months. Hole 4 tee for example as long as weather allows wil move into the woods and present a completley different par 4. Hole 5 will also provide something rather different as we look to protect summer tees. becoming a par 3 stroke index 2 for the men and a shorter par 4 for ladies.  As always we attempt to provide golfers with a true test and enjoyable winter golf experience.

Q - why is there no FedEx this winter?

A - it is a time consuming operation, the competitions sub-committee have come up with a great alternative with full program of competiions including an order of merit and eclectic

Q - heard a rumour that we are over subscribed with members is this the case and lots more to join?

A - no 'fake news'. The committee at the last meeting decided that we need to remain well within the articles of association figure of 650. We have taken some new 18month members taking us to 602, we are also pleased to say that we have a good group of GIG (get into golf members) who have a membership until April that allows them to play after 2pm on non competition days. The ladies section particularly are making great efforts to develop these new members as they start off in golf.

Q - will honours boards ever go up?

A - Great question, the project pre-covid was taken on by the competitions sub-committee.  All of the boards are complete and ready to be installed in the old pro shop where you may of noticed is free of pictures for this very reason. With a volunteer stepping up the boards should be up in the next couple of weeks.

Q - im a golfer not a bistro diner!!! is there a way I can not get these emails?

A - By now golfers know there is a bistro if they so choose to use it, the notifications will go primarily to 'bistro' customers and to social members.
