After defeating Blyth in the first round, we had the toughest of draws in the 2nd : away to Close House.
With Andrew Minnikin falling ill this morning, Zak Laws stepped up to the mark to partner Alex Dixon.
The Close House pair of James Wilson +5.6 and Jeff Pitt off +4.5 moved to 1 up after a 3 putt bogey on the par 3 4th by our lads.
It was back to all square after a good birdie putt by Alex on 6.
Then an unlikely win on the par 5 7th took us to one up: after Alex again holed a nice putt and Close House 3 putted after hitting the green in two.
A par on 9 for Close House, was enough to take the match back to all square.
Then, as often happens in foursomes, the match quickly slipped away with a couple of loose shots, bringing losses at 11, 12 and 13: the lads finally falling to a 4&3 loss on the 15th.
Good luck to Close House; they'll be very hard to beat.
Many thanks to Alex and Zak (also Ian Davidson and Andrew Minnikin for playing in round 1).
It was a pleasure watching some great golf.
We'll be back fighting next year!
