Last night Northumberland brought a strong side to the City in game 10 of the Newcastle and District League.
James Walmsley playing up the order at 2, came up against a really good player, former County Strokeplay Champion, Andrew Gibson: some timely birdies early in the back 9 proved too much for James as he fell to a 6 & 4 defeat.
Ian Davidson continued his great run of results beating the previously undefeated Gary Parsons 3 & 2
Paul Souter played nicely to secure a 6 & 4 win against Michael Stenhouse.
Karl Mossom again playing his best golf on Thursday nights won 4 & 3 against David Fawkes.
Alex Dixon was 2 down with 3 to play against Paul Caldicott: on 16 Alex drove up the left side, ending up in the semi, but with a clear shot to the green: Paul had hit his 3 wood into the trees on the right:,and could only chop out, leaving about 140 yards to the green: advantage Alex at this stage: he hit the green leaving what looked like a would be putt to win the hole: Paul then pulled off a remarkable shot holing out for a 3! Alex failed to match the birdie so lost 3 & 2.
Zak last on the course, one up playing 16, fell back to level after a good birdie from Seton Wakenshaw: both hit the 17th green in 3: Seton away: Seton holed out and Zak lipped out: 1 down: On the last Seton hit his drive down the left side, Zak finished in the fairway bunker: Zak's sand shot finished short of the green, the chip that followed needed to go in, and nearly did: Seton12 feet away for birdie rolled his birdie putt stiff for the 1 up win.
Final result 6 - 6. Not bad against a very good team.
Gosforth away next.
