Gents Club Championship

Saturday saw the Club Championship take place over 36holes, Chairman Jim Screen set the players off from 7.58am. A great turnout with over 50 playing in the event in what proved to be fairly tricky conditions.

After 18holes it was the surprise package of Liam Shanly who was leading the field with a level par 72 along with Alex Dixon. In round two it was the Dixon and Ridden two ball where the title was to be decided. Ridden with a 3under round and Dixon with a 2under round meant that they finished the 36holes dead level.

The players were given an option to finish the event on the night with a 3hole playoff followed by sudden death or to replay the match on another day with the traditional 18hole playoff. After a tiring day both players agreed to come back and battle it out again over 18 holes, the playoff will be on Friday 11th August at 4pm.

The catering team provided a lovely BBQ for club members which was followed by a historic first 'nearest the pin shootout' 60yards matchplay £5 entry which left a spicy £150 bonanza for the winner. After the knockout stages it was Dave Ridley, Phil Ridden and Jack Hermeston who made it to the final, Ridden took aim first and nonchalantly knocked it to around 8ft!!! Next is was Jack and with a crowd of over 50 people he only went and holed out and the crowd went wild!!!

Meanwhile Dave Ridley was patiently waiting 'Olazabel style reminiscent of Brookline' for the green to clear........... needing to hole out it was a tough ask and Hermeston took the shootout dollar!!!

County Championship

Big congratulations to Phil Ridden who after a challenging week came out as the winner of the prestigious title of County Champion. This is the first time Phil has won this event and it was certainly a tough route to the title. 36holes on Sunday to qualify and then last 16 match v Carl Mossom of Parklands, Thursday was the quarter finals v Craig Penny of Newbiggin, Friday was a Semi Final clash with Alex Dixon in what was a tremendous battle between the two City players.

Alex came away after the Renwick Medal for best 36 holes on the Sunday qualifiing event.

Saturdays final over 36 holes was eventually won on the 35th Hole v Andrew Gibson of Northumberland.

Well done Phil & his caddy 'Alex Dixon' and many thanks to all the City Supporters who followed the event during the course of the week.
