THE CAPTAINS’ CHARITY AND “GET SMART” joined forces on Tuesday 15th May 2018 at the City of Newcastle GC and put on a Fashion Show to raise funds for Maggie’s at the Freeman Hospital.
The tickets sold quickly and we had at least eighty ladies arrive on a very sunny day to be greeted by Judy Lillico and Lesley Wheeler and guided into the back bar by Chrissie Elliott to get their coffee and biscuits served by our very able team of ladies Sandra Billington, Maureen Brown, Ann McNab and Pat Usher. There were plenty of seats lining the lounge on either side of the catwalk and they were quickly filled, by our audience, dressed for the occasion.
Caroline Renwick arrived with her team and the dress rails were unloaded and wheeled smartly into the snooker room where the models were waiting, Val Black, Gill Coulson, Margaret Hilley, Linda Moat, Lorna Robinson, Norma Rogers and two volunteers from Maggie’s. Our lady models had been up to ‘Get Smart ‘at Milkhope the previous week to be dressed by Caroline and we had some very capable dressers on the day, Pam Leigh, Sandra Raines and Jen Nicholson who were kept busy as our models had some very quick changes.
The outfits were gorgeous and brought gasps from the audience particularly when the models appeared in fascinators and hats, at jaunty angles. There were so many changes and varieties of outfits, leisure, special occasions and everyday, and we were entertained throughout by Caroline describing the garments, their brand names, types of material and of course the price. Kath Muir was there with her camera taking lots of photos.
Raffle tickets were sold by Pam Oliver and Anne Carter with a chance to win vouchers for an outfit at Get Smart, a hairdo at Park Design, Wideopen and a protective sun cream (newly introduced by Caroline at Get Smart). The winners were thrilled with their prizes.
I am delighted to announce that the final amount raised was "£700 of which £200 was donated by Caroline from “Get Smart” and I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our wonderful local charity ‘Maggie’s’ and having so much fun ourselves on the day.
