Course play policy

General Club Noticeboard : Course play policy

In the event of adverse weather conditions, the golf course will be subject to a daily inspection by any of the following, the Head Greenkeeper, his deputy or any member of the Greenkeeping staff, or exceptionally the Club Manager.

This decision whether the golf course remains open or has to be closed, will be the sole decision of the person carrying out the inspection.

It is the club’s intention to keep the golf course open as much as possible and decisions to close the course will not be taken lightly. It will be based on a combination of any health and safety risks to players or green keeping staff; the playability of the course; the potential of causing damage to the course by having it open during extreme weather.

The inspection may determine that the state of the course or the weather is such that safety on the course or the condition of the course may be compromised. In these circumstances, the course may be open for play, but restrictions on the use of trolleys, club hire buggies or ride on buggies may apply. See Club Policy - Use of Ride-on Buggies by Disabled persons.

Updates will be communicated on a daily basis on the clubs telephone, and can be heard by calling 0191-2851775 and selecting option 1.

Messages will be available from 07:00am between April and September and from 07:30am between October and March.

The message will detail any considerations members should take due to the weather conditions, ie the course is waterlogged, icy conditions. Information regarding the next inspection will also be explained at these times.

If the course is closed and it is felt that a further inspection later in the day is appropriate, this will also be communicated on the clubs telephone.

Further information may be communicated by email
